Cool Max is a local, family-owned business. Sometimes our customers ask us why we need to go inside the house to service their air conditioner, when the condensing unit is sitting outside. Believe it or not, your furnace is used when your air conditioner is running. How can that be? It's because the fan or blower in your furnace is the fan that is used to circulate the conditioned air in your house. Also your HVAC system has two coils - an outdoor condenser coil and an indoor evaporator coil. These two coils are connected by a copper pipe, or refrigerant line, that is referred to as a "line set". This refrigerant line allows the refrigerant, (Freon) to run back and forth through the connecting copper pipe from one coil to the other. The evaporator coil usually sits on top of your furnace, so if your furnace is located inside your house, a service technician will need to go inside your house to check the other components also. What about a heat pump? A heat pump doesn't need a furnace to work with it, instead it has what is called an air handler that consists of a blower that circulates the air through the house. It still need an evaporator coil. Very few people know that it takes three pieces of equipment to make your air conditioner work - an outdoor condenser, an evaporator coil, and a blower from your furnace or air handler.
